Firebird Market Gives Students the Boost They Need

Every semester at the UDC main campus in Van Ness, Students at the university get a supplement to their food needs by picking the packed pantries of the Firebird Market. Firebird Market is a food pantry supplied with shipments of grocery donations from several companies and organizations. The pantry is open Monday through Friday. The pantry is restocked on Mondays and Wednesdays. Students can expect to find a variety of grocery items including fresh produce, ready-to-eat salad kits, canned goods, bread, and even snacks. “Firebird Market has been great for me”, said UDC Freshman Q’adir Brown. “The food situation at home hasn’t been super stable, so this market has really been helping me.”

While not intended as a food assistance program, students can find many of the items on offer useful when they’re perhaps in a pinch. It should be noted that upon signing up for Firebird Market via QR Code, students are asked if they do face food insecurity, in which case, the university will ask if they would like to be guided to social programs or not. After signing up, students will receive a confirmation email instructing them to go to the UDC Office of Public Safety to have their student IDs registered. Once registered, students will be able to access the pantry themselves by unlocking the pantry door and signing in.

Firebird Market offers students a chance to take advantage of the many benefits of being a Firebird. Whether you’re in need of a quick snack for a pick-me-up before class or are looking for some useful items to help you get through the week. Check out Firebird Market, located in Building 71 on the lobby level.
