UDC’s New Student Government, Royal Court

The ballots have been tallied, and the results are officially in. After weeks of high-energy campaigning across the Van Ness and Lamond-Riggs campuses, the University of the District of Columbia has revealed its student leaders for the upcoming 2026–27 academic year.

Toluwalase Adetosoye and Akilah Hanson have been elected president and vice president of the Undergraduate Student Government Association. Running on a “Building the Brand” platform, the duo aims to elevate the professional profile of the UDC student body.

Peta-Gaye Scott was elected secretary of the Undergraduate Student Government Association. Scott, the chapter president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., launched a “How to Get Away with Impact” campaign focused on administrative transparency.

Sheval Porter has been named the ninth Mister University of the District of Columbia. A member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (fall 2024), Porter previously served as Mister Freshman (2023–24), Royal Escort (2024–25), and Mister Firebird (2025–26).

Esdrizabeth Cuello has been named the 47th Miss University of the District of Columbia. Cuello, the outgoing Miss Junior and captain of the UDC cheerleading squad, recently became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

“The caliber of leadership we saw during this election cycle was truly exceptional,” said Percy Henry III, director of student life and services. “These students didn’t just ask for votes; they presented visions. I am confident that this cohort of leaders will continue to foster a vibrant campus culture that prioritizes both academic excellence and community service.”

As the current administration prepares to hand over the reins, the newly elected leaders are already preparing for summer planning sessions to ensure a smooth transition for the fall 2026 semester.
